Mike Round

Director - Ladies European Tour

Mike was born in Birmingham, England and graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in P.E., Sports Science and Recreation Management in 1987.

He started his career as a Fitness Development Officer then spent nine years in local government, initially as a Sports Development Officer, and eventually as a Principal Leisure Officer. During that time, he was involved with the production of development plans across a variety of sports, the contract monitoring of a large leisure centre, the management of a number of sports facilities, the organisation of events, and the allocation of capital grants.

In January 1998, he became the Golf Foundation’s first ever Development Manager and by September 1999 he had established the UK’s first network of Regional Development Officers. He took over as Chief Executive in May 2000 and oversaw an investment of approximately £1.7M per year into grass roots junior golf through a team of over 20 staff. In this role he was involved with the development and delivery of all of the Golf Foundation’s initiatives and he sat on Boards of the England Golf Partnership, Golf Development Wales, and ClubGolf (the national development partnership in Scotland).

At the beginning of September 2014, Mike joined the Ladies European Tour (LET) as its first Director of Development. In this newly created post, he has been tasked with creating a strategy for how the LET can add value to the development plans in the countries where it has a connection. This will involve working closely with a variety of local, national and international organisations to deliver programmes that inspire women and girls to want to play the sport, and help emerging players to achieve their full potential.
